InK on Paper Exhibit at Prism Gallery, Makati

"Invest in art pieces that resonate with what you stand for." That's what Ms.Gold Tantoco, owner of Prism Gallery, shared during the opening of InK on Paper Exhibit by Ilustrador ng Kabataan which was well attended by art enthusiasts and supporters last Sunday, May 31.

Over 40 artists from Ilustrador ng Kabataan explore the possibilities of Paper. There are paintings, sketches, cut-outs and digital art too which you'll surely find interesting. 

Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan (INK) is an association of artists committed to the creation and promotion of illustrations for children. It was founded in June 1991 by Filipino artists who believe in collective effort and organized interaction among colleagues is vital to the professionalization and development of the industry. I also highly encourage you to visit Prism Gallery at the G/F Island Tower Condominium, Salcedo corner Benavidez Streets in Makati City so that you can see the various artworks. This exhibit is until June 30, 2015. 

Ms.Janet Toral of Digital Filipino, my CBSME mentor, invited me to attend this event and I enthusiastically said yes because somehow, I have a penchant for art. It's something close to my heart too.  
She and Ms.Gold was talking about tips on buying an artwork when I arrived.

"That when you display them in your office or home, it becomes a story piece on who you are, what you are going through, what you believe, what you want to be." - Ms.Gold on investing on art pieces

So taking a cue from her advise, here are 2 pieces in the exhibit that I feel emotionally connected with... 

This artwork by Pergy Acuna is my favorite piece in the Ink on Paper exhibit. At first I thought it was a painting but when I looked closely, I realized it was a cutout!  

This piece is being sold for Php16,000. I wish I can afford it but for now, I'll just admire it. I really like the details and just now,I realized that the title of this artwork is another reason for soul searching. What do you think about this "Cover-up"? 

Let's take a "Joy Ride".  Those with free-spirited  and fun-loving personalities can definitely feel what the kid feels in this mix media piece by James Abalos.

Because of this InK on Paper exhibit, my love for arts and crafts was rekindled and I'm inspired to discover what I can do on paper. It's been awhile since I had my "art & crafts time". It was my hobby growing up. 


Aside from painting, clay sculpture, beads and other stuffs, I was very passionate about scrapbooking that I even conducted several workshops about it and used it as a tool for creative play therapy for teenagers. That's why when I saw the Cover-up piece, I felt a connection as it reminded me of my aspirations and dreams.

This exhibit is supported by FEDRIGONI Asia, a leading Italian producer of highly specialized papers and boards which was founded in 1888.
