BITCOIN IS THE NEW CURRENCY. Bitcoins? What’s that?! Well, that’s also my reaction when I first encounter the term while I was reading an interesting article about the WEB that we don’t know. In that article, it states that the internet we use and familiar with is just the tip of the iceberg. World Wide Web is bigger and darker that what we can imagine. Yes, it goes beyond Google and Facebook or YouTube!
So you see, there’s also this “dark web” market and it uses bitcoins as currency and the article claims that terrorists use it to purchase weapons and do other illegal transactions. Some individuals also use it to order and pay for drugs anonymously… I wish I bookmarked that link so that I can share it now and you can read more about it but sadly I can’t remember the title of the article but a simple Google search this morning showed so many results about Bitcoins, mostly negative ones.
I was also randomly browsing blogs when I also saw a site with a section asking for Bitcoins donation, instead of the regular cash or credit so I was a bit amused to find it there, up and running in a decent blog and open for everybody to see. Well, as you can guess by now, I already associated bitcoins with the bad guys and so now I’m more confused.
What is Bitcoin exactly!? Is it really bad and evil?
Or maybe we can put it into a better use?
This topic really made me more curious and highly interested about the upcoming DISINI TECH LEGAL FORUM on Bitcoins, Data Privacy, Cybercrime and E-Business which will happen next week, April 16, 2015 at Hotel Intercontinental Manila.
3 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND
THE DISINI TECH LEGAL FORUM
Third, ignorance of the Law excuses no one so it will be great to learn about Data Privacy Act of 2012 (R.A. 10173) from one of the experts who will share their knowledge and experience about this important topic.
Nope, I don’t have any legal background or any inclination to take up law but you see, I believe that even ordinary citizen like us should be well-informed about this topics and issues so that we can make better judgements especially when we want to tap the “web market” and protect our online identities and properties.
Yes, it is a Legal Forum so I also highly suggest this event to my friends especially those practising Law as their profession and anyone involved or interested in the following topics:
PHILIPPINE CYBERCRIME LANDSCAPE
PROSECUTING CYBERCRIMES IN COURT
TECH LEGAL UPDATES
CHALLENGES IN INTEGRATING AN ONLINE GLOBAL PAYMENT SYSTEM
