This is a collection of inspiring stories about Daetenos and their little town called Daet. ![]() Recently, I’ve been frequently visiting Daet, a laidback yet progressive town in the province of Camarines Norte, and I am enchanted by the tourism potential of this place which I never thought would be possible before. As you may know, I first visited Daet when I was in college to attend my friend’s debut. What I can remember from that quick visit was that it almost looked like a ghost town with so many abandon-looking hotels and some thriving local businesses. It was disheartening that I even thought to myself, it will be hard to live in Daet. Even some friends expressed there’s nothing much to do. It’s boring. ![]() To be totally fair, I guess their progress was affected when Andaya Highway opened which shortens the land travel time to major destinations in Bicol region bypassing this little town of Daet. Fast forward to 2014 and I tell you, so many things have changed!!! I remember Mark’s word, Daet Municipal Tourism Officer, “Para ka lang natulog at nanaginip, paggising mo ibang-iba na ang Daet.” True enough, I feel like I’m watching Daet’s reawakening everytime I visit this place! You'll get your dose of adrenaline rush when you visit Daet.
I met Daetenos who were passionate enough to continue believing in the potential of their town. I saw workers who chose to toil their fields instead of working in the cities, balikbayan who return to give back and help, professionals who went back to render their service, business owners who continue running their shops and stalls despite their losses and most importantly, I witnessed the locals way of life whose hardwork and simplicity are equally embodied by their leader. ![]() If you know Mayor Tito Sarion’s lifestory (na pwedeng pang MMK!!!), you’ll realize that he is a public servant, in victory and defeat, whose love for Daet is beyond compare. TRIVIA: Mayor Sarion has a collection of Pineapple that comes in different forms, shapes, colors and design. Sometime in his life, he sold Daet's famous fruit in Manila in order to survive and make a living for his young family. Pineapple is very meaningful and symbolic in his personal life.
![]() I guess my friends’ decision to stay in Daet is a real indicator of its continuing success progress. Who would have thought that way back before, these friends considered settling down in urban part of Bicol like Naga City and even abroad. They would say “ano naman mapapala sa pag-stay dito sa Daet? Ang daming kulang, hindi maganda to raise a family.” The drastic change and developemtns in Daet changed their plans... you guess it right, they opted to settle in Daet when they started their own family. They built their house in one of the real estate developments there and now they are even consider selling their vacant lots in other parts of Bicol. Everytime I visit them, I witness their happiness and contentment with their decision to stay in Daet, Camarines Norte where Bicol begins...
